«Volume Types» tab¶
Tab shows types of volumes.
Volume type is a label that can be selected when creating volume. It usually maps volume by some criteria, for example: “Performance”, “SSD”, “Backup”, etc.
Lists provide following information:
Field name | Description |
---|---|
Name | Name of the volume type can be set arbitrarily by the administrator. Changing the name is available in the list of actions for volume types. It is also a link to go to detailed information about a specific volume type. |
Associated QoS Spec | It defines required QoS levels that are interpreted by the system. |
Encryption | Flag displays whether the volume type is encrypted. |
Public | It displays whether the volume type is public. Public ones are available to everyone, non-public ones - only within the project in which they were created. |
Sorting and filtering tools are available for the list of volume types. Fields are sorted in ascending and descending order. It is also possible to sort objects marked with check mark. Filtering tool works by the name of any of the fields, incomplete input of the name is allowed.
Also, the user can view detailed information about volume type. Detailed information about the object opens in separate block on the right side of the page when you click on the volume type name link. This does not close the list of objects and is displayed on the left side of the page. To close block of detailed information use the button, to open a block of detailed information use the button .
Detailed information about the volume type is presented in several internal tabs.
«Volumes list» tab¶
Tab displays list of volumes:
N | Action | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Update encryption | Modifying encryption for the volume type. Action is available only when encryption is enabled for volume type. |
2 | Update metadata | Managing volume type metadata. |
3 | View extra specs | It allows you to set additional key pairs for this volume type. |
4 | Edit volume type | Modifying volume type name, description, and public status. |
5 | Create volume type | Adding volume type. Volume type is type or label that can be selected when creating volume in OpenStack. It usually corresponds to the set of capabilities of the storage driver. |
6 | Create encryption | Enabling encryption for volume type will encrypt all volumes of that type. |
7 | Delete volume type | Deleting volume type. |
8 | Manage QoS specs association | Managing QoS specs association. |
Actions are available for execution with respect to one selected volume type by selecting the required action in the “Actions” field of the corresponding line in the list.
You can also run actions on a group of pre-selected volume types. To do this, you need to mark required objects and call a group action.
Features of working with volume types¶
Adding volume type¶
Function is available in the general list of all volume types.
In the opened wizard window, select:
- Name, any name is available;
- Description is optional parameter;
- Public flag. By default, the volume type is created public. To create non-public volume type, uncheck this field.
Confirm the creation with the “Create volume type” button.
Adding encryption¶
Function is available in the general list. It allows to enable encryption for all volumes of the selected type.
Set required parameters and confirm them with the button «Create Volume Type Encryption».
Viewing encryption details for volume type¶
Function is available in the general list for volume types with encryption enabled by clicking on the encryption name link.
Viewing volume type extra specs¶
Function is available in the general list. It allows you to add, change, or remove additional parameters: key-value pairs for the volume type.
Specify required parameters and confirm them with the button «Close».
Configuring the volume type to be able to attach multiple instances¶
Select the required volume type and call the action «View extra specs»:
Click on «Create»:
In the window that opens, set required values:
- Key is
multiattach
; - Value is
<is> True
.
Click on «Create».
Check that the entered Key-Values are correct and click “Close”. After that, the configured volume type can be applied to the volume in order to be able to attach it to several instances at the same time.
Managing QoS specs association¶
Function is available in the general list. It allows you to add, modify, or remove association with QoS specification.
Set the required binding and confirm it with the button “Associate”.
«QoS specifications» tab¶
QoS specification can be associated to volume types. This is used to display the set of QoS capabilities requested by the owner of the volume. Also, each QoS entity has value that defines its scope. There are three types:
- frontend (Nova Compute);
- backend (Cinder back-end);
- both.
Field name | Description |
---|---|
Name | Name of the specification can be set arbitrarily by the administrator. |
Consumer | Consumer. |
Specs | QoS specification. |
Sorting and filtering tools are available for the list of QoS specifications. Fields are sorted in ascending and descending order.
N | Action | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Create QoS spec | Creating specification, indicating the name of the specification and its consumer. |
2 | Manage specs | Managing set of parameters key-value of the QoS specification. |
3 | Edit consumer | Changing «Consumer» parameter of QoS specification. |
4 | Delete QoS spec | Deleting QoS spec. |
Actions are available for execution with respect to one selected QoS specification by selecting the required action in the “Actions” field of the corresponding line in the list.
You can also run actions on a group of pre-selected QoS specifications. To do this, you need to mark required objects and call a group action.
Features of working with QoS specifications¶
Adding QoS specification¶
Function is available in the general list using the “Create QoS specification” action.
After calling the action, you must specify the specification parameters:
- Name, any name is available;
- Consumer, separation of consumption policies. Possible values are:
- backend;
- frontend;
- both.
Complete the procedure with the “Create” button.
Managing QoS Specification Parameters¶
Function is available in the general list. It allows to add, modify or remove key-value pairs for the QoS specification.
Indicate required pairs and confirm your choice with the “Close” button.
Changing consumer parameters¶
Function is available in the general list. It allows to control the “Consumer” value for the QoS specification.
Possible values are:
- backend;
- frontend;
- both.
Select required value and confirm your choice with the “Modify consumer” button.
